1. Do bring along lots of business cards – everyone will ask for one and everyone will offer you his or hers.
2. Do start your conversation with “namastay”. That is the local form of greeting. Follow it up with “kaise hai”. (How are you?)
3. Do try and remember the names of the people you meet and address them by name – most of the Indian businesspeople use the first name right away.
4. Do study up on the companies you visit before you get there – it is very impolite if you are not well prepared.
5. Do dress modestly if you are female – even when it’s hot! Form-fitting clothes on women are seen in nightclubs only.
6. Do keep an open mind – you may be frustrated by the apparent contradictions you face every day, but this is an ancient country with a very complex history.
7. Do carry with you a box of sweets or at least a chocolate bar for the children, if somebody has invited you home for dinner.
8. Do wait for a female business colleague to initiate the greeting. Indian men do not generally shake hands with women out of respect.
9. Do use titles wherever possible, such as “Professor” or “Doctor”. If your counterpart does not have a title, use “Mr.” or “Miss”.
10. Do always remain polite and honest at all times in order to prove that your objectives are sincere.

The terrorists want to strike a blow at modern India, to revenge their suppressed fellow Muslims. But they want also attack the West, as evidenced by targeting of famous luxury hotels where German, British and American citizens stay.

Terrorists killed at least 101 people and took hostages during a series of attacks in Mumbai. Hundreds of injured were sent to hospitals. The Islamist organization Deccan Mudjahideen claimed responsibility for the attack. (read more on The Times of India)

Das Material ist zwar auf englisch, aber who cares?

Es ist alles ungewohnt. Die Straßen sind so leer, sie haben keine Schlaglöcher. Die Luft so sauber, dafür aber kalt! Und soviel Post hat sich nach sechs Monaten auf meinem Schreibtisch angesammelt…

Ich freue mich wieder in Deutschland zu sein!

In wenigen Stunden geht es für mich zurück nach Deutschland. Um 6:45 fliege ich von Bangalore mit Flug BA0118 nach London Heathrow. Dort komme ich um 12:30 an, weiter geht es dann um 14:15 mit Flug BA0908. Voraussichtliche Ankunft in Frankfurt ist schließlich um 16:55. Zeitangaben entsprechen der Zeitzone des jeweiligen Landes.

Der Ausflug nach Goa war (vorerst) meine letzte größere Reise in Indien. Nach den Karten zu Bangalore, dem Bundesstaat Karnataka und der Region Südindien, folgt schließlich die Karte zu ganz Indien. Auf der Karte sind zudem Satellitenaufnahmen eingeblendet.

Klickt ihr auf eine der roten Stecknadeln, wird euch ein Link eingeblendet, der zum entsprechenden Blogeintrag des jeweiligen Reiseziels führt. Die gestrichelten Grenzlinien im Norden deuten auf den Kaschmir-Konflikt mit Pakistan und auf die Grenzstreitigkeiten mit China hin.

Heute war der letzte Tag meines Praktikums. Mit einem Schokoladenkuchen habe ich mich am Nachmittag bei meinem Team für die tolle Unterstützung und die hervorragende Zusammenarbeit bedankt.

Meine Kollegen, die Firma und Indien werde ich ganz bestimmt vermissen, wenn ich wieder zurück in Deutschland bin. Im März beginnt in Karlsruhe dann mein vorletztes Semester. Mal schauen wo ich die Diplomarbeit schreiben werde…

Eine Stunde später um 14:20 landeten wir in Goa. Von dort aus brachte uns ein Taxi an den Palolem Beach. Nach dem wir in drei Strandhütten (je 300 Rupien pro Nacht) eingecheckt hatten, ging es ab ins Meer. Der Sand war fein. Es gab nur leichten Wellengang. Zwei von den Strandhütten waren sogar mit fließend Wasser ausgestattet. Moskitonetze gab es hingegen serienmäßig.

Sonntags frühstückten wir ausführlich am Strand. Frisch gepresste Säfte (20 Rupien) und Lassi in verschiedenen Variationen gab es zu Genüge. Gegen Nachmittag liehen wir uns Kajaks mit denen wir dann auf eine vorgelagerte Insel paddelten. Von dort aus bot sich uns ein absolut genialer Sonnenuntergang.

Den Montag verbrachten wir mit Beachvolleyball spielen, in der Sonne liegen, im Meer schwimmen und in den zahlreichen Strandrestaurants verweilen. Die Atmosphäre in Goa ist einzigartig relaxt. Mich wundert es nicht mehr, dass es manche Hippies hier über Jahrzehnte hinweg hin verschlägt.

Früher los ging es am Dienstag. Ein Boot brachte uns raus auf das Meer um Delphine zu besichtigen. Für eine Stunde ließen wir uns an dem schwer zugänglichen Butterfly Beach (zu sehen im Video) absetzen, der durch seine Unberührtheit sehr idyllisch wirkt. Dann ging es zurück zu unserem Strand und nach dem Mittagessen wieder zum Flughafen. Von oben konnte man den Smog über Bangelore erkennen. Um 16:50 ladete dort unser Airbus A320 von Air Deccan.
